SCENE ANALYSIS What happens in your scene? Outline the basic events. Scene 3.4 starts at the party Macbeth is hosting. Macbeth invites several lords including Lennox, Banquo, and other lords. Banquo was heading toward the banquet, but he is murdered by a murderer. One of the murderer returns to report that Banquo is dead, but Fleance, the son is still alive. Macbeth actually fears Fleance because the witches predicted he was going to become a king. The murderer disappears and Macbeth returns to the banquet. Macbeth acts as if he did not know Banquo's death, and talks about Banquo's courage. However, Macbeth sees Banquo’s ghost. Macbeth is ambivalent, he is both scared and raged. He yells at the ghost and the ghost vanishes. After few moments, just when Macbeth was little better the ghost re-appears and Macbeth again, becomes raged and scared. Other lords think Macbeth is having a bad day. The lords decide to leave, but Lady Macbeth tells the lords it is just a temporary illusion. Later when Macbeth sees the ghost for the second time, Lady Macbeth orders the lords to leave.
What do you think are the key purposes of your scene? In other words, what is this scene important? oThe scene is very important because Macbeth, after this scene Macbeth becomes more prudent, wanting to kill everyone or everything that might cause harm to him. Macbeth not only became prudent, but also there is a mental metamorphosis in Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Because Macbeth acts weird, Lady Macbeth is slightly worried about herself too.

What are your reactions to this scene?
Macbeth is always describing as robust and emotionally strong. However in this scene it Macbeth is guilty and he is scared of the actions he committed. The story of the theme seems like the " Fair is foul, foul is fair", in other word this means that what it seems good outside physically could actually be harmful, if examined closely. Even Macbeth being scared can also be applied to this theme, because Macbeth looks strong physically; however, he was actually very scared of ghosts. What does your character want in this scene?
Macbeth basically wants Banquo to become vanished. He fears Banquo and his son, since the witches have predicted that Banquo will be the father of the Kings.
What is your character's motivation for doing what he or she does?
The motivation for Macbeth is power. Because he want power, and he want to maintain his power, he basically destroys or murders all the obstacles he have in his way of becoming a powerfull king. Therefore, he murders Banquo, Ducan, and other lords.
What obstacles stand in his or her way?
Banquo and Fleance, the son of Banquo was Macbeth's main obstacle. In this scene, however, Banquo is murdered. Fleance survives, and Macbeth believes he is going to become a obstacle. Banquo's ghost was also an obstacle in the party. Macbeth' banquet was ruined by Banquo's ghost. Macbeth was extremely scared of this ghost.
What happens when your character confronts these obstacles?
Macbeth fears the Banquo's ghosts. Lady Macbeth, in the other hand cannot see the ghost. Therefore, she taunts Macbeth by saying such word as " ARE YOU A MAN? " This is very critical to Macbeth, because he was always strong.
Are there any distinctive elements in your character's way of speaking?
Macbeth was scared in most of the scene. He talks arrogantly at the beginning, but he turns frightened right after when Macbeth sees Banquo's ghost. Ross and other lords doesn't know the story of Banquo's Murder so they just believe Macbeth is sick, or tired. Macbeth some times mis-pronounces some words like " look ! lo! " What is your character thinking during the scene?
Macbeth wants the ghost gone, and no one knows what Banquo's ghost is thinking. In the text, however, we could infer that Banquo wants to revenge and wants to tell him his death is near. Macbeth in the other hand is ambivalent. He is both scared and raged. He screams and yells at the Banquo's ghost in order to destroy the ghost. SELF EVALUATION l1. Everyone well participated in the group. The group members were very zeal and was quite organized overall. One thing which did not go well was acting. Our group wasn't able to change their voice according to their character. Because the voice is monotonous, it seemed like our group was just reading the story off from the script. 2. How well did you contribute to your group?
I was able to change my voice and become dramatic, so I was able to help our group to get involved in their character and have a little chane in their tone. The main problem was again the tone, the play seemed extremely boring with monotone. 3. How well did you perform as an individual?
I tried my best to get involved with my character. Perhaps, Macbeth is the hardest character to act out in the scene. Because Macbeth is scared and raged, it was quite hard to act this scene. 4. What could have improved your scene performance?
Usage of more diverse props would probably improve the scene performance, because our group tried to use as simple prop as possible. The performence should be more complex. 5. How did the scene performance help you better understand the play.
The scene performance basically gave me the opportunity to review the scene and learn them closer. We've saw different video and studied how the characters feel. By learning the tone, I was able to learn the story more deeply and clearly.
